Rope Orangutan Sculpture hand carved

Category Sculpture

About This Work

This Free Standing "one of a kind" sculpture is hand carved in Honduras Mahogany
with 5 coats of Tung Oil imparting a semi-gloss finish.

An Alder wood base utilizes a felt bottom to avoid scratching on any surface.

The sculpture is approximately 21" deep by 16" wide by 30" high.

I modeled this neat primate from photos and drawings while
visiting the San Diego Zoo some years ago.

The actual Orangutan was holding a Manila rope wrapped
around his hand and coiled at his feet.

It occurred to me the image of rope and primate together
would make a great sculpture, so finding the right size rope
really made quite a sculptural statement.

Orangutans are very curious creatures mimicking things they
can see and touch so not uncommon to view rope, tree branches
and other objects within the enclosure - the rope being the most popular.

All sculptures ship in a custom heavyweight box, wrapped in bubble pack
and stretch wrap, suspended in Styrofoam loose fill.

All pieces ship UPS Ground Insured within the U.S. mainland, lower 48 states.
